Match Preview: Forest Green (A)

After what has been a very dismal past few week or so. We turn up to The New Lawn to face Promotion pushers Forest Green at completely the wrong time.

Our previous three fixtures have left us potentially being relegated by as early as next week and also bottom of the National League. 13 goals conceded and only 3 scored. Simply not good enough. It started off with a 4-1 defeat to Solihull Moors. It then spiralled into a nightmare. The following Tuesday we were beaten 4-1 again. This time by Tranmere. To top it all off, last weekend we visited Gander Green Lane and yep.. we lost 5-1. We found ourselves on the back foot almost immediately and we just never got going. Ferriby were 3-0 down at half time. With a mountain to climb, Robbie Tinkler pulled one back for the Villagers to bring back some hope for the travelling fans. Unfortunately however, this wasn’t enough. We are now 10 points away from safety.

Houshams men have put up a huge fight over this season. But is it all over now?

In other news, and its more bad news. Rory Watson has been recalled by Scunthorpe United. This is a devastating blow for the boys because he has kept us in so many games across this season and has pulled off some magnificent saves also. We wish him the best of luck with his return to the Iron and hopefully he can establish himself as a great professional goalkeeper.

With Watson’s departure. The National League allowed us to sign a goalkeeper even though the transfer window had passed. Ferriby were very quick to announce a replacement. Owen Evans signed from Wigan Athletic on Friday night and will most likely make his full debut this weekend. Evans is a Wales U19 international and was recently on loan at Rhyl FC in the Welsh Premier League. We would like to welcome him to North Ferriby and wish him all the best with his loan spell.

Yes we have more bad news.. Ryan Kendall and Ross Armstrong have joined Curtis Bateson on the list of players out for the rest of the season. The lack of players is starting to become a worry, with a number of youth players playing against Sutton last weekend.  Squad depth is most definitely not on our side. One positive is the fact Taron Hare is back from suspension following his 3 match ban for the red cars against Bromley.

To summarise, Kendall, Bateson, Russell, Armstrong are all sidelined. Therefore young players George Bell, Kojo Kyei and Tom Bolton abain will join the squad.

This Weekends Opposition

Forest Green lie 3rd in the National League, only a point away from table toppers Lincoln City.  There last 10 games have consisted of 7 wins and 3 defeats. There last game ended with a heavy  3-1 defeat to the Imps at Sincil Bank. So they will be looking to get back on track just as much as Ferriby. Promotion is certainly not out of there reach, with Lincoln beginning to drop points. They have a huge chance to capitalise on that. There main threat will come from Christian Doidge, who has scored 23 goals this season for Rovers.

Forest Green will be without Ethan Pinnock after suffering a knee injury.

Our previous meeting a at the Eon Visual Media stadium ended with a 3-0 victory for Forest Green. They certainly looked completely out of Ferriby’s league. It was a tough match to watch that’s for sure. I can’t recall us having the ball for more that then. A coulle of minutes at a time. I hope and pray we can get something from this weekends game. But with recent form, i am struggling to have any confidence. Especially with the growing injury list and the amount of yourh players we have to rely on.

Player Focus: Owen Evans

Owen will have to stamp his authority as quick as possible with his arrival only a day before this weekends fixture, but with prevous experiences on loan at other clubs. It shouldn’t take him too long to settle down into life here. With striker Sam Cosgrove also from Wigan on loan, he will help with igniting that team chemistry.  Fingers crossed for a successful time at the club.
