Who Stood Out? Key Players and My Views vs Southport

After the defeat to Southport us Ferriby fans didn’t have very much to shout about. The game was between what looked like two poor teams which are fighting to stay up. The defeat leaves us still in 21st but now having Southport just a point behind us along with Braintree.

We always looked in the game and had the chances to score. Reece Thompson looked very dangerous for Ferriby but wasn’t able to find the target in the end. It was a game i feel we should of won. If we want any chance of staying up we must be winning games against teams below and around us.

Even with all the lows of today. There were a few players out there today who caught my eye.

Taron Hare

Taron Hare you could say came into the starting fold because of the long term injury to Stephen Brogan. But Hare has come in and done an exceptional job and he did it again today. Playing in a left wing back role, he was able to move freely down the left hand side in attacking terms aswell as defending well from the tricky wingers Southport had. He managed to get forward a lot to aid the efforts of Connor Robinson and Reece Thompson and as always used his exceptional throw to put the Southport defenders under pressure.

Reece Thompson

Our Man of the Match for today’s game. Reece Thompson always looked a threat going forward with a number of efforts which weren’t too far away from the goal. He managed to pass two players cutting in from the left hand side to have his shot hit the bar in the second half, and then having a free header which went inches over the bar. Since signing his creativity has been excellent and that is what we are lacking, especially going forward. Hopefully we see more of this going into the next few games.

Mark Gray

Got the sponsors man of the match today, but before the season started we were quite worried about the prospects of having Mark Gray as our main centre back. But today he had a very solid game. Apart from the lack of marking between the back three which saw Southport score. He was very calm with the ball which is unusual for him let’s be honest! moping up when called upon and also maintained the team from conceding again with Southport piling on the pressure throughout the game

Simon Russell

Has been a great signing for us this season. Captain today and gave a captains performance. He controlled the midfield whenever Ferriby had the ball and was able to pick up passes to create chances for others. Very much a key person for us going forward, just as much as the likes of Reece Thompson. Deserves to be mentioned as a stand out

Ryan Fallowfield

Ryan hasn’t been used as a starting player much this season, but with an injury to Danny Clarke, Housham gave him the chance and he impressed me and a number of others. He was full of energy and was always getting himself into good areas. He didn’t get a goal but the way he was playing, he deserved one. This won’t be the last we see Fallowfield starting that’s for sure.

My Player Ratings

Watson 7, Middleton 6, Gray 7, Skelton 6, Topliss 5, Hare 7, Oliver 6, Russell 7, Fallowfield 7,  Thompson 7, Robinson 6

Subs Used: Emerton 6, Kendall 5,  Fosu Mensah 5

We head to Macclesfield next Saturday with a decent attendance from Ferriby expected. Hopefully the boys do us all proud at Moss Rose.
